One football goddess. One future Queen. One love that could change the game.

Princess Victoria has perfected the royal playbook: calculated smile, convenient boyfriend, impeccable press. But behind the tiara ticks a heart that's tired of playing by the rules.

Enter Ashleigh Woods: England's football captain, media darling, and living proof that authenticity scores every time. When Victoria pins an MBE on Ash's lapel, the instant chemistry jolts both their worlds.

Stolen glances become secret meetings. Private texts become tabloid gold. And suddenly, Victoria's tearing up her royal rulebook for a woman who makes her feel like more than her title. Ash has faced down penalty shootouts in European Cup finals, but winning Victoria's heart? That's the match of her life.

When their romance hits the headlines, it's game on: bow to tradition, or fight for a love that could change history. Victoria's got a crown to inherit. Ash has a legacy to defend. Neither planned to start a revolution, but when destiny meets desire, sometimes you have to risk it all to win.

Get ready for Clare Lydon's latest game-changer: a royal romance that proves some matches are worth breaking every rule for.

A must read!

The book is a masterclass in two worlds colliding romance. The dialogue crackles, the emotional beats hit hard, and the moments of vulnerability feel real and earned. The backdrop of royal obligation versus the freedom of sport adds a fresh twist to the sapphic romance genre, and the pacing keeps you turning pages late into the night.

Whether you're in it for the queer representation, the feel-good love story, or the fantasy of a footballer falling for a princess, Princess Match delivers. It's sexy, tender, and triumphant—a perfect read for anyone who believes love can change the game.

I want there to be a book two!

A special story

I really enjoyed this one. I’m a sucker for royal romance and would love to think someday this could happen. As with all my favorite books I didn’t want it to end. Glad to escape to England once again as the British stories are my favorites.

Football and Royalty

The Womens England Football Captain is about to receive an award from the Prince on the back of winning the Euros. However, it looks like the Princess maybe stepping in.
This sounds a bit familiar if your from the UK.....
The lines between reality and fiction are fine ones.
That being said if you love womens footie and don't mind royalty this story from Clare will be right up your street.
The Princess has a boyfriend and the press are expecting an engagement announcement any day, little do they realise the Princess and her beau are best friends and nothing more. Ash the England Womens captain is recovering from a breakup.
The two meet in a very formal environment initially but meet again abroad in a nightclub.
What follows feels like a fairytale, can they really forge a future together, Ash is just a regular person, no airs or graces and what will the royal establishment think.

Inspired, deliciously hot f/f royal romance

I can always count on Clare Lydon to produce great romances. However, time and again the Lydon-genius strikes and there is an outstanding one. „The Princess Match“ is one of those inspired reads. I couldn‘t put this romance down. There is chemistry, tension, a story that gives a lot of background, flows with sweet eddies and hot moments and has a light clash of royalty vs. working class.
England Captain Ash’s team brought football (i.e. soccer) home to England by winning the Euros. When getting an MBE she meets Princess Victoria and you can hear THE SIZZLES in capital letters coming off the page.
Princess Victoria is bound by royal protocol and said protocol does not have lesbian heirs to the throne in its century-old books, oh no Ma‘am! But when fate brings Ash and Victoria together again a slow, delicious burn starts with a lot of feels, happy sigh! And contrary to common believe the British, oh yes, can have hot sex - stiff upper lip be damned. But there is still the beastly protocol and a stern Queen who prefers a traditional marriage for the princess.
I loved how Lydon wove together the busy life of a working princess and the equally busy life of a soccer star. The background of both are well fleshed out: if you love a glimpse into the - albeit fictional - life of a royal and its challenges or whether you‘re into sports and football (soccer) Lydon will deliver. The cast of secondary characters is excellent - I so enjoyed e.g. goalie Cam (who definitely needs her own story), the queen mom, Astrid and Sophia and of course Debra and her Yorkshires supreme.

She writes and she scores a winner!

Brilliant opening full of Lydon hallmarks, humour, atmosphere and real people!
I was gripped and so pleased by the early plot choices. Only one third in and I am loving the plot choices the writer has made. Amazingly, as the whole getting to know each other has been going on, I have been feeling the tension of how on earth is this going to work out and how can I stop real life so I can just sit and read this book?
The meet the parents was perfect! Cringingly uncomfortable and real.
Uncomfortable and real was the next section too. I love that the tension is coming from reality and not malign outside influences. The plot tensions are so well dropped. The emotions at the end. Another winner from Lydon. I keep mentioning plot in this review because it kept me gripped, unexpected turns, not all bad, and an emotional happy ending!
Ps. I mentioned I wanted to pause real life so I could keep reading. Unfortunately I couldn't as I can't stay up late to read. First thing in the morning, with my first cup of tea I do wordle. I have done, every morning for 518 days. This morning I didn't. I picked up my book and finished it. (I also forgot to go back wordle. I have no regrets!)
Lydon specialises in a meet hoot. This was a meet hot! The longing!
